Amila Sampath Abeysekara is a prominent figure in Sri Lankan cinema and television, primarily known for his acting prowess.[1][2] While he has been actively involved in television projects, he gained notable recognition for his portrayal of Amantha in the serial "Paba," a role that earned him the esteemed Most Popular Actor award in 2009. Additionally, he has demonstrated his versatile abilities by hosting four seasons of the reality show "Derana Dream Star."[3]
Early Life
Born in Kandy, Amila Abeysekara's upbringing saw him relocate to Maharagama at the age of 10, along with his two younger brothers.[4] He commenced his educational journey at Dharmaraja College, Kandy, before transitioning to President's College, Maharagama.[3] During his school days, he showcased his cricketing talents, continuing his involvement with the sport through club engagements prior to venturing into acting. In 2010, he tied the knot with his longtime partner Theja Jayawardena, marking the culmination of a relationship that had been officially registered in 2004. Presently, Theja Jayawardena works as a flight attendant for Emirates airline.
Career
Amila Abeysekara's foray into the entertainment industry began in 1998 when he seized the opportunity to become an arbitrator at Swarnavahini. His acting journey kicked off in the year 2000 with the widely acclaimed serial "Depath Nai." His debut in cinema took place in 2008 with the film "Hathara Denama Soorayo," a remake of the 1971 blockbuster of the same name directed by Neil Rupasinghe. In this movie, he portrayed the character Linton, contributing his talent in a supporting role. Further expanding his cinematic portfolio, he took on the lead role in the 2012 film "Sihinaya Dige Enna."[6][7]
Amila Abeysekara's dynamic involvement in the entertainment industry also extended to hosting the musical program "Rhythm Chat," a production broadcasted on Jathika Rupavahini.
