Gajanayake Arachchige Samuditha Dhananjaya Siriwardena, widely known as Dhananjaya Siriwardena, is a versatile performer in Sri Lankan cinema, theater, and television. Stemming from a family with a rich artistic heritage, he also takes on the role of a television host.
Personal Life:
Dhananjaya Siriwardena's lineage is steeped in creativity. His father, Sunil Siriwardana, is a celebrated musician and lyricist in Sri Lanka, while his mother, Susiri Siriwardena, also contributes to the realm of lyrics. Among his family members, his elder brother Madhumadhawa Aravinda shines as a popular singer, actor, and even a politician.
Dhananjaya is happily married to Shashini, a flight attendant based in Dubai. Their story began in 2005 during a photoshoot organized by Indika Mallawaarachchi. The couple now shares the joy of parenthood with their daughter, Maurya Shiny, born on July 1, 2020.
The artistic legacy extends further back in Dhananjaya's lineage. His grandfather, Peter Siriwardena, was a notable musician and actor who also served as a music lecturer at the Government Women's Training College in Polgolla. His grandmother, Srimathi Karuna Devi, was both a music teacher and an actress.
Dhananjaya's family tree is brimming with talent. His aunt, Chandrika Siriwardena, is a well-known songstress and playback singer, and she was married to Anton Alwis, a journalist and lyricist. Unfortunately, Anton passed away on March 26, 2018. Chandrika's granddaughter, Dulshara Dasanthi, carries on the musical tradition as a singer.
Career:
Dhananjaya Siriwardena embarked on his mainstream acting journey in 2004 with a significant role in "Me Paren Enna," a film directed by Asoka Handagama and produced by YA TV. His remarkable performance in this production earned him the Best Actor award at the inaugural Raigam Tele'es ceremony in 2005. Dhananjaya's entry into cinema began with "Kumara Kanyawi," directed by K. A. Wijeratne.
Beyond his acting endeavors, Dhananjaya is committed to fostering the performing arts through his classes, known as Prana. In 2008, he took part in a pioneering project, acting in Sri Lanka's first digital movie titled "Hetawath Mata Adaraya Karanna." The film made its debut on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2008, and was broadcast through the Citi Hitz Satellite movie channel on Dialog Television.
