anaka Kumbukage (ජනක කුඹුකගේ) [Sinhala]), is a prominent figure in Sri Lankan cinema, stage drama, and television. Known for his remarkable versatility, Kumbukage is highly regarded for his performances in films such as "Saroja," "Daruwane," and "Udumbara."
Personal Life:
Janaka Kumbukage has a younger brother and his parents are retired teachers. Due to his parents' transfers, he attended multiple schools during his upbringing. His affinity for drama blossomed during his time at Wadduwa Madya Maha Vidyalaya. He pursued his education in the commerce stream and completed his A/Ls. Prior to venturing into drama, he enrolled in the Technical College, Maradana, where he studied Business Studies for four years. Alongside his involvement in drama, he also held a position at the Milk Board. In 1994, he tied the knot with Anusha, and the couple was blessed with a son.
Career:
Janaka Kumbukage embarked on his drama journey in 1984 under the mentorship of Gamini Haththotuwegama's dramatic workshops, eventually becoming a member of his Street Drama Group. Throughout his career, he collaborated with notable figures such as Dharmasiri Bandaranayake, Somalatha Subasinghe, Asoka Handagama, and German playwright Klauz Coozemberg in various stage plays and street dramas. In the year 2000, he clinched the Best Stage Actor award for his performance in the play "Beehama Buhumi" at the State Drama Festival.
His inaugural appearance in television acting occurred through the series "Siva Rahasa Pura," directed by Wimalarante Adikari. In 2009, he took on a new role as a director, helming his maiden stage production titled "Sulanga Mata Katha Karai," which graced the stage at Lumbini Theatre, Colombo, on July 25th and 26th.
Kumbukage's cinematic journey commenced with the film "Sihina Deshayen" in 1996, directed by Boodee Keerthisena.
