Nadeeka Gunasekara, born on May 13, 1958, with the birth name Dissanayake Wijesuriyage Sandhya Darshani Gunasekara (නදීකා ගුණසේකර) [Sinhala], is a prominent actress in Sri Lankan cinema and television. Her notable role as Dan Chooty in the film "Chanchala Rekha" by Sena Samarasinghe earned her wide recognition.
Beyond her acting prowess, Nadeeka also served as one of the jury members for the 2018 Derana Film Awards.
In her personal life, Nadeeka was born in Kandy to parents with notable professions. Her father, Stanley Gunasekara, worked at the Nawalapitiya post office, while her mother, Thalatha Gunasekara, was both a school teacher and a popular film actress. Nadeeka's childhood involved living in various cities due to her father's occupation, which influenced her early education at schools like Udugoda Vidyalaya and Uduheenthanna Senadhikara Vidyalaya. She later attended Pushpadana Girls' College in Kandy and Vishaka Balika Vidyalaya in Bandarawela. Completing her A-levels in the art stream at Mahamaya Girls' College, Kandy, she went on to graduate with a BA in Arts from the University of Kelaniya.
Nadeeka is married to businessman Suren Hapuarachchi, and together they have a daughter named Thenuki Sehansa, born in 2004.
Her acting journey began with her debut in the 1980 film "Kanchana," directed by M.A. Sangadasa, while she was still studying for her A-levels. Throughout her career, Nadeeka has gained popularity for her roles in movies like "Kanchana," "Chanchala Rekha," "Biththi Hathara," and "Thani Tharuwa." She has portrayed leading characters in 19 films and has also taken on the role of a producer for two films, "Ahinsa" and "Aya Obata Barai." Her stage name, Nadeeka, was given to her by Siri Kularatne.
