Deepani Silva

<div>Deepani Silva, also known as Deepani de Silva, is a prominent Sri Lankan film and teledrama actress. She began her career in the entertainment industry by participating in street dramas and plays. Over the years, she established herself as a respected and experienced actress in both film and television.</div><div><br></div><div>Biography:</div><div>Deepani Silva hails from a family with a background in trade union activities. Her father, D. Peter Silva, was a trade union leader. She received her higher education at the Buddhist Ladies' College in Colombo.</div><div><br></div><div>Career:</div><div>Deepani Silva started her acting journey in 1975 by performing in street dramas. To further develop her acting skills, she joined the theater school "Lionel Wendt Kala Kendra Ranga Shilpa Shalika," which was founded by veteran theater actor Dhamma Jagoda. This school is recognized as Sri Lanka's first-ever theater school. During her time at Ranga Shilpa Shalika, she received guidance from the late Gamini Haththotuwegama, a prominent figure in Sri Lankan street theater.</div><div><br></div><div>Her acting portfolio expanded to include various teledrama serials such as "Doo Daruwo," "Ammai Thaththai," "Hathpana," "Lokke Mama," "Abuddassa Kolama," and "Thanradevi" in the early 1990s. These roles helped pave the way for her entry into the Sinhala film industry. In 1994, Deepani Silva made her cinematic debut in the film "Mee Haraka."</div><div><br></div><div>Throughout her career, Deepani also took on supporting roles, such as portraying the mother of a spoiled son in the 2008 blockbuster film "Machan." This film is based on the true story of the Sri Lankan handball team that went missing in Germany in 2004. Additionally, she was part of the cast of the 2018 horror film "Seya," which holds the distinction of being the first all-female featured movie in the history of the Sri Lankan film industry.</div><div><br></div><div>Arrest:</div><div>On 28 May 2018, Deepani Silva was arrested in connection with an accident that occurred in Bandaragama.
