Notably, she received a prestigious nomination for the British National Television Awards in the category of "Drama Performance" for her remarkable portrayal of Nurse Mari in ITV's acclaimed series, The Good Karma Hospital.[1]</p><p>Her journey in the entertainment industry began with her screen debut in the English movie, Mother Teresa, in 1997, where she played a supporting character. However, she truly marked her presence in the world of cinema with her first appearance in Sri Lankan cinema in 2003, starring as the lead in the Sinhalese film, Ira Madiyama (August Sun). Her exceptional performance in the movie earned her several international and national awards, including the Best Performance/Best Actress accolade at prestigious events like the 2004 International Film Festival of Las Palmas and the 2006 SIGNIS Salutation Awards Ceremony.</p><p>Born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Nimmi Harasgama comes from a diverse background, with a Sinhalese father and Tamil mother. Her early education led her to the Westwood House School for Girls, a Church of England school, before pursuing a B.A. (HONS) in Drama and Theatre Arts at Goldsmiths, University of London. In 2001, she further honed her acting skills by attending an Acting in Film Workshop at the New York Film Academy through a scholarship.[4][5]</p><p>Throughout her career, Nimmi has showcased her talent in a variety of roles and languages. She ventured into Tamil-speaking roles with the short film "Enakkum oru per (I Too Have a Name)" in 2012, earning recognition and a nomination at the Berlin International Film Festival for the Golden Bear for Best Short.</p><p>In addition to her work in film, Nimmi Harasgama has also made a mark on television, starring in the chat show "Put a Chat With Auntie Netta," based on a character she created, and collaborating with ETV, a Sri Lankan television station.</p><p>Her accomplishments extend to the global stage, with her significant role in Deepa Mehta's film "Funny Boy" in 2020, based on Shyam Selvadurai's novel. Her performance received high praise and critical acclaim.</p><p>Looking ahead to the future, Nimmi continues to explore her talents as she co-writes the cross-cultural romantic comedy film "Chennai Story" alongside Bafta-winning Welsh director Philip John.
