Rebeka Nirmali, also known as Rebecca Nirmali, was a prominent actress in Sri Lankan cinema, theater, and television. She was born on November 27, 1964, in Anuradhapura. Nirmali received her education at Nivanthaka Chethiya Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura. She had one daughter named Anne Niroshani, who was born in 1987.
In 1987, Nirmali relocated to Colombo and embarked on her drama career with stage plays such as Lokaya Suddai and Sudu Samanalayo. She gained recognition as a leading actress through popular plays like Uthure Rahula and Amal Biso. However, her breakthrough came in 1990 when she starred in the highly successful television serial Weda Hamine, directed by Jayantha Chandrasiri. This role propelled her to fame and became her most notable work. Throughout her career, Nirmali appeared in over 150 teledramas across various genres, showcasing her versatility as an actress.
In 2003, Nirmali ventured into the film industry with the comedy film Aladinge Weldin, directed by Upali Piyaratne. She went on to portray supporting roles in films like Ira Sewaya, Uththara, and Samanala Sandhawaniya. She also had the opportunity to work in the Indian production 'Kangalil Kaithi Seithen,' directed by Bharathi Raja. Her final appearance in cinema was in Wimal Alahakoon's movie Maw Senehasa.
Tragically, on August 13, 2014, Nirmali passed away at the age of 49 while undergoing treatment at the Maharagama Cancer Hospital. Her contributions to Sri Lankan entertainment, spanning over 25 years, left a lasting impact on the industry.
