Devnaka Namindu Porage, popularly known as Devnaka Porage, is a talented actor in Sri Lankan cinema and television. He started his career as a child artist, featuring in various commercial advertisements. Devnaka gained significant recognition through his roles in the blockbuster film "Gharasarapa" and the television serials "Ganga Addara" and "Sihina Wasanthayak."
Born on December 17, 1997, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Devnaka is the only child of his parents, Damenda Porage and Shermila Milroy, who are both educationists. He attended Yoshida International School and Elic International School for his primary education before continuing his secondary education at Lyceum International School. At Lyceum, he excelled in cultural dancing, drama, and sports karate, earning him the school colors in 2014. Despite initially pursuing science in his Advanced Level studies, he later turned to law and is currently pursuing an LLB degree at Buckinghamshire New University.
During his schooling at Elic International School, Devnaka showcased his talent in martial arts and won a gold medal in the Yellow Belt Kata event at the Colombo Shotokan Karate Tournament in 2009. He continued to excel in sports karate, winning his first international gold medal in 2010 and a second gold medal in 2014 at the International Nihon Itosu-kai Tournament held in Soka University, USA. In addition to his athletic achievements, Devnaka also won the Best Actor award in an international school-level stage drama competition. He demonstrated his passion for traditional dance forms by earning national colors in cultural dancing and winning various first-place awards in interschool competitions.
Devnaka's aunt, Nimanthi Porage, is a renowned actress in Sri Lanka, known for her contributions to theater, television, and cinema. She is married to popular cinematographer Prabath Roshan.
Devnaka's acting journey began as a child artist at the age of 7 when he appeared in a television commercial for Vanitha Wasana in 2007, alongside Umayangana Wickramasinghe and Upeksha Swarnamali. He continued to feature in several commercials, including Alpenliebe, Britannia Biscuits, Munchee Super Cream Cracker, Lipton Laoji, and Sampath X-set. In 2008, he made his debut in television dramas with the serial "Sihina Wasanthayak," where he portrayed the childhood role of the lead character, Nirmal.
Devnaka ventured into cinema in 2008 with the sci-fi film "Pitasakwala Kumarayai Pancho Hathai" directed by Sirimal Wijesinghe. He played a lead role named "Podda" alongside veteran artists such as Suminda Sirisena, Sanath Gunathilake, Dilhani Ekanayake, and Janaka Kumbukage. In 2009, he acted in the short film "May 20th" directed by Reshan Fernando, which received critical acclaim and was selected for various international film festivals.
His breakthrough in television came with the serial "Ganga Addara," a television adaptation of Sumitra Peries' film of the same name. He also appeared in the serial "Gehenu Lamai," an adaptation of the 1978 blockbuster film directed by Sumitra Peries. Devnaka further showcased his acting skills in the docudrama "Juse Vaz" and the serial "Bharyawo."
