"Veeduru Mal": Portraying a Twist-Filled Tale By Susitha R. Fernando "Veeduru Mal," a captivating story centered around a young mother and child, Produced by Janaka Siriwardena, this mini-play is skillfully directed by Ravindra Wijeratne. The cast of "Veeduru Mal" features talented actors including Suraj Mapa, Meena Kumari, Irangani Serasinghe, Jayalath Manoratne, Gihan Fernando, Ruwanthi Mangala, Kumara Thiramadura, Chinthaka Kulatunge, Maheshika Gunasekera, Piyumi Boteju, Bhanuka Manoratne, and a young artist, Sandali Chathurika Welikanna. Anantha, a determined individual from a young age, now works as a legal officer in a private sector organization. She is divorced from her husband, Hemantha, who also works as a legal officer, and they share custody of their 8-year-old daughter. Anantha shares a close friendship with Senesh, a colleague from her office. However, outsiders misinterpret their bond, assuming an affair between them. In reality, there is no romantic involvement, as Senesh is engaged to another woman. Their lives take a turn when Vishwa, a handsome and talented dancer, moves into the neighborhood. To ward off the rumors and external pressures regarding her relationship with Senesh, Anantha pretends that she is in a romantic relationship with Vishwa, even claiming they are about to get married. Unaware of this deception, Vishwa becomes entangled in a web of complications. When Hemantha learns of the alleged affair, he fears for their daughter's well-being and seeks legal action to gain custody. Vishwa faces mental and physical torment due to the situation. As time passes, Anantha confesses her reasons to Vishwa and pleads for his forgiveness. By then, Vishwa has grown fond of both Anantha and the child. With the mounting pressure from Hemantha's harassment, Anantha and Vishwa make a life-altering decision to relocate to Canada with the child. However, as they are about to depart, Hemantha discovers their plan and attempts to forcefully take the child. In an effort to protect her daughter, Anantha delivers a devastating blow to Hemantha, leaving herself disabled. Vishwa, who had always offered love but not desire, embraces the disabled Anantha and the child with unconditional love. The three of them gaze out at the boundless sea with hope for a brighter future. The talented technical crew includes Chandana Dhannapriya as the cinematographer, Suneth Nandalal as the art director, Sameera Kindelpitiya as the makeup artist, Saman Samarawickrema as the editor, and Janaka Fonseka as the music director.
