Hansamali, the only child of Nihal Lakshman Gomez and Wasanthi Perera, was born in Kalapluwawa. Both of her parents had jobs abroad. She completed her education at Sri Sobitha Vidyalaya, Rajagiriya. In 2011, she enrolled in the Side Images Modeling School conducted by Rozanne Diasz.
Her career began in Ramp Modelling. In 2014, she made her television debut in the serial "Rithu," which aired on ITN and was directed by Shantha Soyza. In the series, she portrayed the lead titular role opposite popular actor Vishwa Kodikara. Despite its popularity, the show was cancelled in early 2015 due to political pressure.
In 2015, she took part in Mrs. Globe, and in 2016, she competed in Mrs. Noble Queen of the Universe, which took place in Malaysia. The following year, she participated in the Best Model in Asia competition held in Turkey as part of Future Fashion Faces World.
Her cinematic debut occurred in 2018 with the drama film "Wassanaye Sanda," directed by Udayakantha Warnasuriya. In the movie, she portrayed the lead character, 'Mihiri.' Subsequently, she was invited to act in the Malayalam film "Lucknow" directed by Anil Kumar in 2019. In this film, she played the lead role alongside Sri Lankan dramatist, Jackson Anthony, marking the second time a Sri Lankan actress had played such a prominent role in an Indian film since Yashoda Wimaladharma in 1992.
Aside from her acting career, Hansamali also worked as a television presenter for the musical program "Music Live" from 2014 to 2016. She also appeared in various television commercials, including ones for "Sunlight," "TVS Bikes," "Fortune Cooking Oil," and "Hacks."
On a personal note, Hansamali is married and has a son.
