born 24 October 1980 as Umayangana Wicramasinghe is an actress in Sri Lankan cinema, stage drama and television as well as a television host.
She was born on October 24, 1980, in Borella, as the eldest of her family. Her father, Sunil Wickramasinghe, worked at Sri Lanka Railways, and her mother, Anula Kanthi Kumari, worked at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. She has a younger brother named Mahesh Wickramasinghe.
She completed her primary education at Basilica Maha Vidyalaya in Ragama and then attended St. Paul's Girls School in the Milagiriya district of Colombo for her secondary education. After finishing school, she pursued a medicine course offered by the Ministry of Health Care and Nutrition. She started her career as a news presenter, first at Derana TV and later at Sri Satellite TV.
In addition to her work as a news presenter, she also ventured into acting. She performed in stage dramas such as "Neinage Suduwa," a 2002 production by Daya Wayaman's Sudarshi Institute, and took on roles in Shakespearean dramas like "Desdemona" in Othello and "Gertrude" in Hamlet.
Her television debut came in the drama series "Katu Imbula," directed by Sudath Rohana. She gained popularity for her roles as "Dhananjana" in the serial "Jeewithe Lassanai" and as "Dedunu" in "Ithin Ita Passe." In 2010, she received the Most Popular Tele Drama Actress award at the Sumathi award ceremony for her performance in "Ithin Ita Passe."
She made her first appearance in cinema with the film "Uyanata Mal Genna," directed by Chandrarathna Mapitigama, although the film has not been released yet. Her first released film was "Wassane Senehasa" in 2012, directed by Densil Jayaweera.
She also hosted the television reality program "Ranaviru Real Star," which was broadcasted on Rupavahini.
