Semini Iddamalgoda, the eldest child of K.M.P. Bandara and Nesta Palihawadana, was born on 19 June 1973 in Colombo. She grew up with her younger brother, Gihan Menaka, and commenced her education at Niyagama Primary School in Elpitiya.
Semini is married to Dhammika Jayalal Keerthi Iddamalgoda, a police officer. Dhammika, born on April 27, 1967, is the youngest of three siblings. His father, Weerasiri Kularatne Iddamalgoda, worked as a Co-operative Inspector and Internal Auditor, while his mother was Fransisca Jayawardane from Weralupa, Ratnapura. Dhammika attended Sivali Central College in Ratnapura and joined the Police force in 1988 at the age of 21. Semini and Dhammika got married on 15 December 1994, shortly after Semini completed her A/L examinations. They are blessed with a daughter named Kumali Aseka, born in 2001.
